The LTU Arena is a multi-use stadium in Düsseldorf. It was built between 2002 and 2004 to replace the former Rheinstadion at the same site. The stadium has a maximum capacity of 51 000 and it has a closable roof. The special heating system allows comfortable events at the height of winter. Although the high capacity, the stadium was not used as a 2006 FIFA World Cup venue. Tenants Fortuna Düsseldorf won their first Regionalliga-Nord match at the LTU Arena against 1. FC Union Berlin in front of 38 000 fans. The now defunct American football club Rhein Fire used to play at the stadium too between 2005 and 2007. The first time they played against their arch rivals Frankfurt Galaxy at the LTU Arena, 22 000 people showed up to watch the match. Bayer 04 Leverkusen use the LTU Arena while their own stadium is being expanded. In 2002, they lost the finals of the UEFA Champions League and the national cup tournament. They were also almost league champions in 2002, finishing second.
